She's the First is a nonprofit organization that does more than just sponsor girls' education. The majority of the sponsorships include a mentorship program. One of STF's partners,  the Selamta Family Project, even reconstructs families. The sponsorships from STF provide the tuition for the girls to attend schools, but also their basic needs (food, clothing, etc.) and a support network to provide the girls with an opportunity to succeed. The sponsorships aren't  designed so that the girls can just gather knowledge, but are designed to transform a young woman's view of herself so that she becomes an agent of change, recognizes her power and her ability to have a voice. With this, a girl views life differently, and can ensure that not only her needs, but the needs of her community, are met. The sponsorships help girls overcome the challenging experiences they face (becoming orphans of AIDs, dropping out of school once they reach adolescence due to the lack of a sanitary environment and products, etc.) and increase their well-being. As a result, the girls' potential incomes increase by 18%, they get married later, have fewer and healthier children, are informed of and can avoid exposure to STDs, and then start businesses and improve their communities. The girls then educate their children and provide their children with the same resources. This goes on for generations and generations, and that is how She's the First fights poverty and creates sustainable change.
